Invisalign is a clear transparent dental device used as an alternative to the metal brackets of traditional braces. These clear plastic aligners are meant for people who wish to have an aligned set of teeth while maintaining a discreet appearance. Invisalign is probably the most widely preferred teeth straightening treatment in cosmetic dentistry because of its convenience and comfort.
What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic therapy that can help you achieve a more beautiful smile. It can be used for patients who have mild to moderate malocclusions and can also correct the bite. Patients with an overbite, crossbite, or underbite can undergo Invisalign treatments.
The process is performed by using clear plastic aligner trays to move the teeth into proper alignment gradually. The trays have to be worn for at least 20 hours a day. They can be easily removed, allowing patients to maintain their oral and general health by eating a nutritious diet and following a daily oral regime.
What Is the Procedure of Invisalign?
To get started with the Invisalign treatment procedure, you will first need to schedule an appointment at our office. During this appointment, Dr. Emam will determine if you are suitable for treatment and, if you are, design a personalized treatment plan accordingly. X-rays, images, and impressions of your teeth will be taken to prepare the aligners.
- Fabrication of Customized Aligners
With the latest 3D computer imaging technology, the impressions taken during the first appointment will be analyzed and transformed into customized series of transparent, removable aligners. The patient will be able to visualize the final look of their smile with this imaging technology. This step is performed before the treatment's beginning to give you a clear image of the projected outcome of your final smile appearance.
- Attaching the Invisalign Aligners
During your subsequent visits, you will be given your new aligners. Each pair of aligners in the series has to be worn for about two weeks continuously and removed only when eating and cleaning your teeth. To ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned, you have to visit our office every four to six weeks.
The treatment is complete once all the aligners in the series have been worn. The average treatment time, which depends on the case's complexity, is usually six months to one year. However, it is advised that you wear a retainer after the treatment to stop your teeth from shifting back to their previous positions.
